Imerys Miloterra Assyrtiko 2018

(91)

In 2014, IMERYS Industrial Minerals Greece S.A. transformed a rehabilitated perlite mine in Milos Island to a new financial activity via viticulture. This was a traditional activity on the island in the 1930's. Viticultural consultant Haroula Spinthiropoulou is responsible for the project and the wine is vinified in her boutique winery in Naoussa. In August 2016, the first vine harvest was conducted at Milos’ Vineyard. 300 kilos of grapes were turned into wine!

2018 has produced 1.000 bottles which are not for sale which is a pity. Instead these are the reward for the workers and growers that established the vineyard. Volcanic soils. Very impressive nose showing intense smokiness, cocoa and a dusty character. Unique and revealing more layers as it sits in the glass. Medium bodied more to the elegant side but still textural with mouthwatering acid. Would love to have more of this.
