Kounakis, Athiri 2018

(88+)

(Rhodes island, single vineyard located on a steep slope at 900 m, ungrafted vines planted in the 1930s, organically cultivated, 12.5% abv). While Athiri is, in general, a neutral variety producing pleasant yet uncomplicated wines, old vines Athiri from Rhodes island is an exception. Focused and mineral-driven, lemony nose with a strong core of peach and pear. Very elegant and layered on the palate with depth of fruit and refreshing acidity on the fairly long finish. The power of old vines.
