Ancient Greek red variety mentioned by writers like Homer, Hesiod and Polydefkis. The grape has probably come from the island of Limnos and it is also known by the name of Kalambaki. Produces either (few) single varietal wines or used as a blending component. Limnio based wine is moderate in color with a pure red fruit character and slightly herbaceous. On the palate has moderate levels of acidity and smooth silky tannins. True potential of the variety needs to be explored.
